Mecklenburg Switzerland Nature Park and Lake Kummerower
The nature park Mecklenburgische Schweiz and Kummerower See is located in the north of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the districts of Mecklenburg Lake District and Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania between the cities of Dargun , Demmin , Teterow , Malchin and Waren (Müritz) . It was founded in 1997. The total area of the nature park is 673 km². 19 percent of this area is covered by forest, approx. 10 percent are lakes and rivers, the remaining area is a cultural landscape . There are three large lakes in the nature park: Malchiner See , Kummerower See and Teterower See . The Peene is the largest river in the nature park. Special features are the large lakes, the river landscapes, the centuries-old oak trees, the castles, the manor houses and their rural parks. The nature park is known as a resting area for Nordic ducks. It can be easily reached via the A 19 , interchanges Krakow am See and Güstrow , or via the A 20 , interchanges Tessin and Bad Sülze . The seat of the nature park administration is in Basedow .
Nature reserves in the nature park
There are nine nature reserves that are completely or partially in the nature park:
- Barschmoor (33 ha)
- Binsenbrink in Teterower See (74 ha)
- Gruber Forest (377 ha)
- Hellgrund (21 ha)
- Lime intermediate moor Wendischhagen
- Peene Valley from Salem to Jarmen (6,716 ha), contains the former nature reserves Moorwiesen near Neukalen and Devener Holz
- Compression moraine north of Remplin (146 ha)
- Teterower Heidberge (198 ha)
- Desert and Glass (188 ha)
