history

Today's protected area was created over 13,000 years ago through the shaping processes of the last Ice Age , when at least three glacier advances from the Vistula glaciation (two advances from the Pomeranian Stadium and one from the Rosenthaler Staffel) formed the highlands and left behind the compressed terminal moraine . The moraine range here reaches heights of 70  m above sea level. NN and falls sharply sloping to the south-south-east in the direction of the Malchiner basin . The area is characterized by three elevations; the Mühlenberg, the Saalenberg and the Bornberg.

The Bornberg in the east of the ridge served the Slavs as a refuge in the early Middle Ages . Human use is closely linked to the development of Remplin and the Hahn aristocratic family - agriculture and forestry have taken place since the Middle Ages. Viticulture was successful on the south-facing slopes of the Mühlenberg .

Flora and fauna

The poor grasslands at the edges of the forest have warmth-loving plants such as large-flowered brown elk , great speedwell , pinnate twinks and timothy grass . These species find here rare western outposts of their actually continental distribution. Field red , gloss speedwell , small milkweed , small orant and hollow tooth are found on the arable land .
