Wummsee and Twernsee nature reserve

The nature reserve Wummsee and Twernsee is a 135 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg . It is located south of Mirow , southwest of Diemitz and was expelled on September 15, 1966. The protected area includes the Großer Wummsee , the Twernsee and the surrounding forest areas. The protection purpose consists in the preservation of two nutrient-poor lakes as habitats for endangered animal and plant species. The nature reserve serves as a comparative object for lake research at Stechlinsee . The state of the area is assessed as unsatisfactory. Above all, the intensive recreational use, step damage in the bank area and illegal diving lead to considerable disruption of the flora and fauna. It is possible to inspect the protected area on designated hiking trails.
