The nature reserve Krüselinsee and Mechowseen is a 500 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , eight kilometers south of Feldberg . The Krüselinsee was placed under protection on January 8, 1972, and the entire area was legally established on August 16, 1994.

The purpose of the protection is to maintain a richly structured forest, moor and lake area. It covers this calcareous mesotrophic lakes, including Krüselinsee , the little Mechowsee , the Great Mechowsee , the Weutschsee and Waschsee , with the first-named to rare type of source lakes counts still one, as Made designated, nutrient-poor moor with Kolk , small-scale holdings of old Pine trees and extensively managed wet meadows and dry grasslands.

The current state of the area is considered to be good despite the nutrient inputs from surrounding agricultural areas, but nine plant species have disappeared in the lake as a result in the last 40 years.

The hiking trails are a main tourist destination in the Feldberger lake landscape and provide insights into the nature reserve.

history

The areas were decisively shaped by the last Ice Age , which carved out two gullies in the area of ​​today's protected area, in which the two chains of lakes Krüselin and Mechow lakes and - further to the west - Rohrpöhle , Weutsch and Waschsee are located. The area of ​​the Krüselinsee was already settled in Slavic times. Staue and a water mill were built in the area of ​​today's Krüselin mill . To the west of the town of Mechow , extensive clearing was carried out in the 16th century so that the areas were free of forests. At the end of the 18th century these areas were afforested. Weutschsee and Großer Mechowsee were connected by a ditch. The agricultural areas west of the Krüseliner Mühle were used intensively for agriculture until 1990. Today they are used as pasture. In the times of the GDR, carp were kept in the Rohrpöhle and the Weutschsee , which had a very negative effect on the water quality.

Flora and fauna

Rare chandelier algae ground lawns can be found in the Krüselin and Mechowsee lakes, which, depending on the depth of view in the Krüselinsee, reach a depth of ten meters. Broad-leaved orchid , globeflowers and fever clover grow on the edges of the lakes and moors . Ospreys and white-tailed eagles , crane , bittern , spotted rail and wood sandpiper can be found, and otters live in the area. In the rare Krüselinsee was wolffish proven. Numerous species of dragonflies find a habitat in the nature reserve, including lace spot , banded and blue-winged dragonfly , green moss damsel , eastern and great moss damsel and the very rare petite moss damsel .
