Luisenhofer Teiche nature reserve

The nature reserve Luisenhofer Teiche is a 30 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania three kilometers east of Neuenkirchen . It was placed under protection on July 7, 1995. The protected area comprises abandoned peat cuttings in the Datze valley with surrounding swamp forests.

The current state of the area is assessed as satisfactory, as the water balance of the areas is disturbed by the surrounding deep drainage ditches and the ponds periodically dry out. The brisk fishing activity continues to have a disadvantageous effect on the bird world.

A hiking trail along the Datze grazes the area.

history

The protected area is embedded in the Datze valley, which was created in the Ice Age by the collapse of a crevasse. The Datzetal then mossed. In today's protected area, the peat layer is up to 2.5 meters thick. Peat ditches were used to extract peat - it was used intensively in the first half of the 20th century in particular. Today's Luisenhofer ponds remained. The edge areas have been grazed for centuries, and now the areas are subject to nature conservation-friendly grassland use.

Flora and fauna

In the ponds there is a diverse plant cover with common horn leaf and candelabrum algae . Black alder , willow , birch and buckthorn grow in the bank areas . Pipe grass meadows with Nordic bedstraw , tormentilla , brook avens and pennywort cover the areas between the former peat cuttings. The surrounding quarry forest consists of alder , common ash , sycamore maple and sycamore elm .

In the area of 85 bird species have been identified, including Rothals- and Little Grebe , Gadwall , marsh harrier , crane , Beutelmeise and Lesser Spotted Eagle . The otter occurs intermittently.
