The nature reserve Seen- und Bruchlandschaft south of Alt Gaarz is a 774 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg.

location

It is located south of the village of Alt Gaarz (Jabel) and includes mesotrophic clear water lakes ( Bergsee , Krogsee), forest lakes (Laubahnsee, Backofensee , Lankhagensee), bogs of various types ( Kesselmoor am Laubahnsee, Vosssche Moor, Grassee) as well as surrounding swamp forests and grassland. The designation took place on September 24, 1990. The area of the protected area was reduced in 1997. The nature reserve is located in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature park and is part of the FFH area Seenlandschaft between Klocksin and Jabel as well as the EU bird sanctuary Klocksiner Seenkette, Kölpin and Fleesensee . The current state of the area is assessed as satisfactory. Nutrient inputs have a negative effect. The nature reserve can be entered on public paths. There is a nature trail at the mountain lake.

history

The areas of today's protected area were decisively shaped by the last Ice Age . Immediately to the north is a terminal moraine. When the glacier ice thawed, extensive sand was piled up and channel lakes up to 14 meters deep were carved out, which today form the lake and quarry landscape. A large stone grave not far south of the Krogsee indicates a settlement since the Stone Age . The damming of the Müritz in the 12th century had an impact on the areas of today's protected area: the groundwater level was above today's level for centuries. On the Wiebeking map from 1786, today's reed area of the Grasssee is continuously covered with water.

Flora and fauna

The flora is varied due to the large number of habitats. Plants in humid locations such as sedges , rushes and mosses as well as woody plants such as willow, alder and birch dominate. Pine and oak grow on drier locations . The protected area is the habitat of sea eagles and ospreys , cranes and otters , crested newts and fire-bellied toad .
