The Müritzsteilufer near Rechlin is a nature reserve in the communities of Rechlin and Südmüritz in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The approximately 278  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number N 265 in the directory of nature reserves maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is part of the FFH area “Müritz” and the EU bird sanctuary “Müritz-Seenland and Neustrelitzer Kleinseenplatte”. The nature reserve is bordered mostly to the conservation area "Mecklenburg Great Lakes country." The area has been under protection since summer 1999 (date of regulation: July 9, 1999).

The nature reserve is located on the southeast bank of the Müritz, northeast of Rechlin. The steep bank is formed by a slope of a ground moraine that slopes steeply towards Müritz . The Prelitzsee is located in the very east of the protected area .

To the northeast, the nature reserve borders on the Bolter Canal in the southwest of the harbor village on Claassee . In the southeast, the nature reserve borders on wooded areas or agricultural areas .

Through the nature reserve, the steep bank of the Müritz with behind and other, adjacent areas as well as a narrow strip of the water area in front of the bank of the Müritz are placed under protection.

There are beach wall and hook formations on the banks of the Müritz, and there are residual lakes in the protected area.

The area is the desolation of the former Klopzow estate with relics of an old, cultural-historical economy typical of Mecklenburg. From the mid-1930s, parts of the site were used as military property, initially by the Rechlin test site and, after the Second World War, by the Red Army . After their withdrawal it lay fallow .

Several paths run through the nature reserve.

On the bluff and adjacent shore areas increased a flutter elm forest .

In the nature reserve, semi-open and open land biotopes as well as near-natural forest islands and pre-forests of birch, alder forest and aspens , wet and dry sites can be found in a moving terrain relief .

Humid locations are orchids and Seggenfluren to find, while dry areas of herb-rich lean lawn companies and silver grass be taken hallways. A sloe-hawthorn bush can be found in the southwest of the area. Dog rose and broom broom join the sloes and hawthorn bushes . Mugwort - nettle - herbaceous corridors occupy the gaps between the bushes and the edges. Here u. a. also red ostrich grass , common oat grass , common ball grass , scabiosa knapweed , carrot and St. John's wort . Silver birch and white elm migrate into the biotope from the adjacent woodland .

Other plant species occurring in the nature reserve are z. B. Marsh gentian , spotted orchid , marsh lice herb and marsh sitter . Lean grassland with oats , quivering grass , carnation , rattle pot and golden thistle settle on former fields .

fauna

The nature reserve is used by numerous gray geese as a breeding area. The bittern is also native here. During the bird migration it serves as a resting place for cranes .

The area is the habitat of various amphibians and reptiles . Common toad , pond frog and moor frog as well as sand lizard , forest lizard , slow worm and grass snake have been detected in the protected area .
