The Mönchsee is a lake and a nature reserve of the same name in the district of Wredenhagen in the municipality of Eldetal in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The body of water has a size of about 91 hectares and is 65.9  m above sea level. HN . The lake merges directly into the boggy environment, so that the size cannot be precisely defined. The maximum size of the almost oval lake is 1500 meters by 900 meters. In the east there is a 3.6 hectare extension of the Elde. The main tributary is the Elde , which comes from the north and leaves the lake in the east. To the north of the lake is the town of Wredenhagen, but not directly adjacent to the lake, and to the south is the small settlement of Mönchshof.

The latter place also gave the water its name. Amelungsborn Monastery ran a farm on the lake , which is attested in a deed of donation from 1232. Not far south of the Mönchsee lies the state border with Brandenburg .

The lake was redesigned in the 18th century. Since then the Elde has been flowing through the water, which has led to a lowering of the water level. In 1968 an outflow weir and a pumping station were built, which made grassland management possible in the area around the lake.

The lake and the surrounding silting moor form the 245 hectare nature reserve Mönchsee. It was placed under protection in 1940. The purpose of protection is to preserve the shallow lake with natural islands and the silting bog as a breeding and resting place for water birds.
