Eldetal is a municipality in the southwest of the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which was created on May 26, 2019 through the merger of the municipalities Grabow-Below , Massow , Wredenhagen and Zepkow . The community is administered by the Office Röbel-Müritz with its seat in the city of Röbel / Müritz .
geography
The municipality is located in the south of the Mecklenburg Lake District between Röbel / Müritz and Wittstock / Dosse on the state border with Brandenburg . The upper Elde , which gives the municipality its name, flows through the municipality in the direction of Müritz . With the Massower See (113 hectares) and the Mönchsee (91 hectares) there are two larger lakes within the municipality. The Mönchsee is located in the middle of a nature reserve of the same name , which can be viewed from an observation tower in Mönchshof.
The districts of Evchensruh, Grabow-Below, Massow, Neukrug, Wredenhagen and Zepkow as well as the residential areas Kornhorst and Mönchshof belong to Eldetal.
history
On December 17, 2018, the mayors of the four municipalities signed the territorial change agreement, which, among other things, determined the name of the new municipality. The new municipality was created on the day of the municipal elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2019 .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE ELDETAL".
Attractions
One of the attractions of the municipality of Eldetal is Wredenhagen Castle , which was first mentioned in the 13th century and whose inner courtyard is used for various cultural purposes. In addition to the Wredenhagen Free Castle School , the facility also houses a hunting room and a home parlor. There is also the Wredenhagen church from the second half of the 18th century, the interior of which is essentially original and has a Lütkemüller organ from 1860, the Massow village church made of field and brick, and the 19th century Grabower church in neo-Gothic style as well as the village church in Zepkow, a brick building on an old field stone base with a wooden tower from 1775. In Massow there is a listed manor complex with manor house and park. South of Below, already in the Wittstock / Dosse area , lies the Death March memorial in the Belower Forest .
traffic
The federal autobahn 19 (Berlin – Rostock) runs through the middle of the municipality, the next junctions are Röbel / Müritz in the north and Wittstock / Dosse in the south. The Eldetal motorway rest area is close to the bridge over the Elde. State road 24 from Röbel / Müritz to Wittstock / Dosse, which runs parallel to the autobahn, crosses Wredenhagen. The next train stations are in Wittstock / Dosse or Meyenburg .
