Location of the municipality of Torgelow am See in the Mecklenburg Lake District | ||
Torgelow am See is a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is administered by the Lake Landscape Department in Waren , based in the non-official city of Waren (Müritz) .
geography
Torgelow am See is located on the Torgelower See lake of the same name , northeast of Waren-Müritz, southwest of Stavenhagen and west of Penzlin .
The districts of Meierei and Schmachthagen belong to Torgelow am See.
history
Torgelow was first mentioned in a document in 1218. A large stone grave , the so-called "Heisterstein", however, indicates that this area has been inhabited for a long time. It was built between 3000 and 1800 BC. Built in BC.
From 1784 to 1945 Gut Torgelow was owned by the von Behr-Negendank family . In May 1848, in the wake of the revolutionary events, angry day laborers stormed and burned the mansion , causing great unrest throughout the country. The new mansion in neo-baroque style was built in 1904 by the well-known architect Otto March . The von Behr-Negendank family was expropriated in 1945. Torgelow Castle was converted into a boarding high school in 1994 .
On January 15, 1996, the municipality, which until then was only called Torgelow, received the addition of the name am See .

coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold over a blue corrugated shield foot on the right a red aurochs head turned left with torn neck fur and silver horns, on the left a green oak leaf with a black stem, with two green fruits."
The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick . It was approved together with the flag on January 14, 2003 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 273 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. |
|
Justification of the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the figurative reference to the Slavic community name is to be made with the aurochs head. The base of the corrugated shield illustrates the location of the community on the lake of the same name. The oak leaf indicates the wooded area. |
flag
The flag is evenly striped lengthways with blue and yellow. In the middle of the flag, two-thirds of the height of the blue and yellow stripes, is the municipal coat of arms. The length of the flag is related to the height as 5: 3.
Official seal
The official seal shows the municipal coat of arms with the inscription "GEMEINDE TORGELOW AM SEE".
