history
The originally Slavic settled village first appeared in a document in the 13th century. The place name Sietows is derived from the Old Slavic word "zytko", which means "grain place" or "corn floodplain". Like many villages in the area, Sietow was owned by the Princes of Werle in the 13th century . Sophie von Werle sold the village in 1300 to the former tenant Dietrich von Gerden. The von Gerden family was able to increase their holdings in Sietow in the following years, but after 1340 they gave property as an after-fief to the Dobbertin monastery , which received the entire village including church patronage on March 13, 1344 from Prince Nikolaus and Bernhard von Werle.
In the 1920s, the present-day districts of Sietow-Dorf and Hinrichsberg in particular were settled by farmers from different parts of Germany. Another settlement was made by new farmers as a result of the land reform after 1945 by displaced persons.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Hinrichsberg and Zierzow were incorporated.
After 1990 Sietow saw a strong development of tourism . In addition to homes, many holiday homes were built. The tourist offers also include a campsite and a boat center in the port facility on Sietower Bay.

Culture and sights
- The village church of Sietow dates from the second half of the 13th century and is a rectangular brick building with a recessed choir made of field stone and the square field stone tower with a half-timbered tower facing west. The organ, a neo-Gothic series prospectus with five pipe fields and a console on the right, was built in 1866 by Friedrich Hermann Lütkemüller . In March 1866, the Doberan organ builder Heinrich Rasche was commissioned by the Dobbertiner monastery to test the organ.
- The two-storey classical Hinrichsberger manor house (castle) burned down in 2009. A side wing from around 1850, which was renovated in 2012 and contains holiday apartments, and an underground vault with the dungeon from the time of robber barons, have been preserved.
