About this picture

Breest is a municipality in the northeast of the Mecklenburg Lake District . The community is located south of Jarmen and is part of the Treptower Tollensewinkel office with its seat in Altentreptow .

geography

Great moat

Breest is about 30 kilometers west of Anklam and 14 kilometers south of Jarmen . At Klempenow Castle near the district of the same name, the Große Landgraben flows into the Tollense .

Viaduct of the A20

To the west of the village, the federal highway 20 crosses the glacial valley of the Great Landgraben. The Anklam junction is also located here on Bundesstraße 199 , which branches off a little to the west of Landesstraße 35 ( formerly Bundesstraße 96 ).

The wet meadow flora of the Tollensetal offers a habitat for some rare plant species.

history

Breest

As a typical farming village, Breest was committed to the lords of Klempenow Castle . In 1766 the place burned down almost completely, eighteen farms and the water mill were destroyed. The miller then built a windmill.

Klempenow

In 1331 Klempenow was first mentioned in a document as the lordly castle of the Dukes of Pomerania.

Bittersberg

The Vorwerk Bittersberg also belonged to the state domain and village of Klempenow .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE BREEST • LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".

Klempenow Castle

    • Bergfrit: One of four corner towers has been preserved; cylindrical tower with a pointed stone cone; in the 17th century apartments were built
    • Remains of the castle wall with battlements and shield walls
    • Three-storey gatehouse Torhaus as a half-timbered building around 1433; renewed at the end of the 15th century with Renaissance elements .
