Moltzow is a municipality in the northwest of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Lake Landscape Department in Waren , based in the city of Waren (Müritz) . Until December 31, 2004, Moltzow was the administrative seat of the office of the same name .

The community of Moltzow in the Mecklenburg Lake District is located between the nearby Malchiner See and Müritz and is part of the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower See Nature Park . The forest and hilly area reaches a height of 127 m above sea level in the southeast. NN.

Moltzow is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Dahmen and Basedow in the north, Gielow in the northeast, Faulenrost in the east, Peenehagen in the southeast, Grabowhöfe in the south and Klocksin in the west.

The districts of Marxhagen, Rambow and Schwinkendorf (with Langwitz, Lupendorf, Tressow and Ulrichshusen) belong to Moltzow .

history

The originally Slavic settlements Moltzow and Rambow belonged to the von Maltzan family (Moltzow) as early as the Middle Ages . The submerged Ilkensee settlement came into being after the Thirty Years' War. The Moltzow estate belonged to the family from 1372 to 1945. Wilhelm von Maltzan had the Moltzower manor house built with an adjoining landscape park in 1852 when he was waiting for the wedding to the 15-year-old Adelheid von Oertzen . The manor house was acquired by Bernd von Maltzan, a descendant of the builder. It is being restored gradually.

With effect from January 1, 2013, the previously independent community Schwinkendorf was incorporated into Moltzow.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off the neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE MOLTZOW • LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".

Attractions

  • The Moltzower manor house was built in 1852 by the Schwerin building officer Theodor Krüger for the Barons von Maltzahn in the Tudor style as a two-storey brick building over a field stone base. It was once surrounded by a landscape park. Today it is again owned by the von Maltzahn family.
  • The Marxhagen manor house was also built by Theodor Krüger in 1853. Its layout is very similar to that of the Moltzower manor house and is regarded as its sister building.
  • Ulrichshusen Castle, castle hotel owned by von Maltzahn
  • The village church in the Rambow district dates back to the 15th century and was significantly expanded from 1621 to 1625. The church contains u. a. the grave of the Swedish general Carl Dietrichson Ruth (1592–1656). The neighboring Rambow rectory was built generously before 1798 and is the only residential building on site that was preserved from the time before the estate was founded in the 19th century.

  • The desert church in Domherrenhagen is the ruin of a church built in the early 13th century and the last structural remnant of a former village between Moltzow and Schwinkendorf -Ulrichshusen, which has been desolate since 1458. The ruin was secured in 2004 and is occasionally used for concerts and church services.
  • The pet farm at the Rambower ponds was opened in 1993 as a petting zoo and houses around 200 animals of 35 species on an area of ​​around 2 hectares, primarily domestic breeds threatened with extinction and some wild animals.
