Economy and Infrastructure
Melz is now a modern village with numerous new homes. Agriculture and small craft businesses shape the community, which, contrary to the trend in Mecklenburg, has kept its population largely constant.
The federal highway 198 from Plau am See to Neustrelitz runs through the municipality. The Röbel motorway junction of the Federal Motorway 19 (Berlin – Rostock) is about twelve kilometers away, the nearest train station is about 16 kilometers and is in Mirow .
The Förderverein Dorf-Kirche-Melz , founded in 2005 and already counting 50 members in 2008, advocates the renovation of the village church, the improvement of the water quality of the Melzer See, the appreciation of a historical personality of Melz, the architect Hermann Willebrand , and the participation shaping village life.
