history

Karbow has belonged to the Melz possessions since the German resettlement and was later a subsidiary of Melz. Karbow was first mentioned in 1403. The place has probably existed a little longer. The name of the place is derived from the old Slavic "karb" and means something like "fire hearth", "smoke hole". The village still had a chapel during the Thirty Years War , which burned down in that one. In 1928/29 Otto von Ferber sold the 493 hectare property and some forest to the Mecklenburg settlement company. This had the first houses built in Karbow in 1929 and the first farmhouses in the nearby town of Friedrichshof in 1936. A total of 23 settlement courtyards were built by 1944. Most of the settlers probably came from ceded areas that had to be left after the First World War as a result of the Treaty of Versailles.

Until 1877 Karbow owned a manor house, which burned down for reasons that are not clear. But the house was rebuilt and now had a ten-axis facade. A biaxial central projection adorned the building. In addition, the then attached park is worth mentioning, which u. a. also shows foreign trees. The oak avenues are also characteristic of Karbow.
