About this picture

Gotthun is a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is administered by the Office Röbel-Müritz based in the city of Röbel / Müritz .

geography

The municipality of Gotthun is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District , directly on the west bank of the Müritz . The municipality forms a peninsula that is bordered by the Sietower Bay at the confluence of the Kellerbach and the Müritzbucht Binnensee . From the vantage point on the shore northeast of Gotthun you have a view of two thirds of the largest inland lake in Germany. The city of Röbel / Müritz is about five kilometers away.

Gotthun is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Waren (Müritz) in the northeast, Südmüritz in the east (point of contact), Röbel / Müritz in the south, Groß Kelle in the west and Sietow in the northwest.

history

Gotthun was first mentioned in a document on June 16, 1359. Prince von Werle renounced all princely rights to six Hufen to Gotthun, which the priest Ivan Kriwitz had given the Kaland . The certificate is printed in the Mecklenburg record book, Vol. XIV No. 8628. However, the area around the Müritz was settled around 5000 years ago, as evidenced by a large stone grave near Gotthun. The “Gotthuner Schanzen” on the banks of the Müritz are remains of fortifications from the Thirty Years' War . A water mill worked on the Kellerbach until 1810, and around 1840 it was replaced by the Schamper Mühle , an earth Dutchman. Today there are holiday apartments in this mill. The former manor house (built in 1826) is today the cultural center of Gotthun, here are the community office, a tourism company and various club rooms.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE GOTTHUN".

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to agriculture, tourism plays an important role in the municipality. In recent years, guest houses, holiday homes, holiday apartments, a hotel and dining facilities have been added to the existing campsites (including the nudist area on Hirschberg ).

traffic

Gotthun is on the connecting road from Röbel / Müritz to Waren (Müritz) and Malchow (this road connects the federal highway 192 with the federal highway 198 ). The Röbel motorway junction on the A 19 (Rostock - Wittstock / Dosse triangle ) is approx. 13 km away. The next train stations are in Malchow and Waren (Müritz).
