Location of the community Schönhausen in the Mecklenburg Lake District | ||
Schönhausen is a municipality in the east of the Mecklenburg Lake District in southeast Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Woldegk office based in the city of the same name .
geography
The community of Schönhausen is located about 30 km east of Neubrandenburg and eight kilometers northwest of Strasburg (Uckermark) on the Schönhauser See and near the Brohmer Mountains, which are up to 153 m high . In the east the community borders on the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald .
The Matzdorf district belongs to Schönhausen .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1266 and at that time belonged to the diocese of Havelberg . In the 15th century, the place passed to the von Rieben family , who had a manor house and in 1727 a village church built. Furthermore, a castle was built on a peninsula of the Schönhauser See, which was to protect the border with Brandenburg until the beginning of the 17th century. With the advent of firearms, it no longer offered adequate protection and was abandoned. In 1820 the von Rieben sold the estate to the bailiff Heinrich Friedrich Christian Michael. The manor house was built on the remains of the castle in 1843 and after 1945 it was a residential building, LPG kitchen, crèche, kindergarten and school.
