Penkow is a municipality in the west of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Malchow Office based in the city ​​of the same name .

Penkow was first mentioned in a document as early as 1309. The prefix penk- can be derived on the one hand from the sacred number five (Indo-European), on the other hand from the Old Slavic custom of Panken / Penken (read the future from nutshells carved with runes).

A catering business was housed in the former Penkow manor house.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE PENKOW".

Penkow is located on the federal road 192 between Malchow and Waren (Müritz), other connecting roads lead to the surrounding communities of Göhren-Lebbin and Walow . The motorway junction Waren on the federal motorway 19 ( Berlin - Rostock ) is about seven kilometers from Penkow.
