Grünow is a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District in southern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Neustrelitz-Land Office , based in the non-official city of Neustrelitz .
geography
The community of Grünow is 17 kilometers east of Neustrelitz in the transition area between the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Feldberg Lake District . The eastern part of the Müritz National Park begins immediately south of Grünow . Here, the 143 m high Hirschberg is the highest point in the national park.
Grünow is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Blankensee in the north, Möllenbeck in the northeast, Feldberger Seenlandschaft in the east and south and Carpin in the west.
The district of Ollendorf belongs to Grünow.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1324. The Grünower Feldsteinkirche was built at the end of the 14th century. During the Thirty Years' War the village was devastated by Tilly's army.
The village, which until the middle of the 20th century consisted of eight larger farms and several shops , is still characterized by agriculture.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE GRÜNOW * LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".
