history

The place appears for the first time in 1273 in a document as Buchholte . The brick church in early Gothic style dates from the first half of the 14th century and is unique in southern Mecklenburg with its open tower passage. Another specialty for Mecklenburg is the purchase of the hooves by the farmers in 1763, who immigrated from the Altmark and from Ostfalen after the Thirty Years War . The purchase price to the chamberlain from Raven auf Boek was 10,500 guilders. The farmers themselves had become owners of the property they worked. In 1777 the Buchholzers set up their own local order and regulated the poor relief themselves. The Buchholz estate formed a so-called peasantry within the knightly territory of the (Grand) Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and was located in the district of the knighthood office of Wredenhagen for the purpose of taxation. Along with the estate, the peasants also had the right to be in the countryside , i. H. acquired the right to participate in the Mecklenburg state parliaments , which Schulze exercised as a feudal bearer. The allodium Buchholz part with an agricultural area 1502 hectares of the largest farms of large Duchy Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

In the 1920s and 1930s, Buchholz was known, especially among Berliners, as a “summer retreat”; there was a special taxi connection.

Buchholz was the backdrop for the five-part GDR television film Daniel Druskat, broadcast in 1976 (with Hilmar Thate , Manfred Krug , Angelica Domröse and Rolf Hoppe, among others ).

On December 24th, masked people walk through the village, an old tradition known as "knee badgers".

Buchholz has had a marina since 1997.

coat of arms

In March 2020, the Buchholz community was granted its own coat of arms by the Ministry of the Interior and Europe.

Buchholz coat of arms
Blazon : “Square from green to gold (yellow); in fields 1 and 4 a golden (yellow) beech leaf, in field 2 a black ploughshare turned to the right, in field 3 a red-tongued and golden (yellow) crowned black bull's head with silver (white) horns. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The symbols indicate the history of the Buchholz community. The book sheet is speaking for the place name Buchholz. The ploughshare is a reminder of the village's first settlers, who were farmers for a long time. The bull's head shows that Buchholz was part of the Werle rulership at the time it was first mentioned .

traffic

From Buchholz, connecting roads lead via Priborn to Röbel / Müritz and Mirow and south to Rheinsberg . The Röbel motorway junction on federal motorway 19 (Berlin – Rostock) is around 19 kilometers away. The nearest train station is in Mirow, 20 kilometers away.
