history

Carpin was first mentioned in a document dated February 3, 1393. This document lists the villages of Bergfeld, Goldenbaum and Carpin, among others. However, the village of Carpin is significantly older and - like many other places in the area - of Slavic origin. In 1996, archaeological investigations were carried out in the municipality of Carpins, the results of which were able to document the remains of settlements dating back to 4000 years before Christ. This means that Carpin is probably located in the oldest known settlement area in Mecklenburg. Stone Age finds have also been discovered during excavations in Bergfeld. The name Carpin has its origin in the Slavic language (Old Polish). Carp (also Karp) means thing, block in the water. Together with the suffix -in, Carpin means carp pond . The place has been designated accordingly in this sense.

It is particularly noticeable that Carpin and some neighboring towns (such as Serrahn and Bergfeld) have no churches. These were destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and not rebuilt afterwards.

In Carpin, Grand Duke Georg built the Schweizerhaus hunting lodge in 1833 , where he also died in 1860. The hunting lodge was destroyed by arson at Pentecost 1945 .

Incorporations

On July 1, 2002, the places Thurow and Zinow were separated from the dissolved community of Rödlin-Thurow and incorporated into the community of Carpin.

coat of arms

Carpin Coat of Arms
Blazon : "Divided by a golden oblique left bar, covered with six green beech leaves, above in red a diagonally flying silver sea eagle with outspread wings, below in blue a silver carp."

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by carpenter Stefan Schuster and designed by Andreas Meenke from Neubrandenburg . It was approved together with the flag on August 13, 2013 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under number 348 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Justification of the coat of arms: The meaning of the Slavic place name is given by the carp as a talking element. It means something like carp pond. The white-tailed eagle is the symbol of the Müritz National Park, the beech leaves stand for the forest in the municipality, in particular the beech population in the Serrahner Berge, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. It used to be the hunting area of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz dukes, in GDR times it was a state hunting area. The beech leaves indicate the six districts of the municipality using a number symbolism.

flag

Flag of the municipality of Carpin

The flag is striped in blue, white and red across the longitudinal axis of the flag cloth. The blue and red stripes each take up one fifth of the length of the flag cloth, the white stripe three fifths. In the middle of the white stripe is the municipal coat of arms, which takes up two thirds of the height of the flag. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.

Official seal

The official seal shows the municipal coat of arms with the inscription "GEMEINDE CARPIN * LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".
