history

Rattey: In 1690, Duke Gustav Adolf von Mecklenburg-Güstrow lent the estate to Georg-Henning von Oertzen. Ratthey remained leased to the von Manteuffel family until 1775 . The Oertzen heirs, who owned the estate for well over two and a half centuries, were expropriated in the course of the land reform in autumn 1945. The classicistic , renovated, two-storey mansion from 1806 was a refugee home after 1945, then a kindergarten, post office, LPG kitchen and has been a hotel since 1998. Rattey attained special significance for the social history of Mecklenburg in 1851 when the landowners Adolph von Oetzen (1797–1867) and Bertha, née. von Pentz (1813–1885) founded a Bethanien rescue house as an educational institution for neglected boys (moved to Neubrandenburg in 1872 ) and a Bethlehem rescue house for girls.
