The municipality of Leizen in the Mecklenburg Lake District is located in a hilly, forest and lake-rich area, which is 120.5 m above sea level with the Dusterholzberg. Reached NHN . Woldzegarten was incorporated on January 1, 1974. Minzow has been part of Leizen since June 13, 2004.

Leizen

The former Slavic Rundling Leizen first appeared in the local church chronicle in 1298. A tower hill castle already existed in the Middle Ages , later a castle was built near it. From the 14th century until the 18th century, Leizen, along with other villages in the area, was owned by the von Knuth family and in 1750 came to the district councilor Ernst Friedrich von Gundlach with surrounding lands . The Wilhelminian manor house was built in 1898. The place was dominated by agriculture until the present day. In 1996 the South Mecklenburg industrial and commercial park was opened.

Minzow

The district of Minzow is also of Slavic origin. The Lords of Below owned several hooves in the farming village in the 15th century . After building its own church in 1862, Minzow became an independent parish. Minzow was an independent municipality until the merger with Leizen in 2004.

Woldzegarten

The Woldzegarten district was owned by the von Flotow family from the 15th to the 20th century . After the owner and the manager were evicted in 1945, various community facilities were housed in the manor house. After the fall of the Wall, the estate fell into disrepair, but was then extensively renovated in the late 1990s. The manor house now serves as a hotel, the large farm building as a culture barn.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE LEIZEN".

Economy and Infrastructure

In the traditionally agricultural area of ​​the municipality , several service and handicraft businesses have settled in the South Mecklenburg industrial park , which is located directly on the motorway , since the 1990s .

Attractions

  • The Leizen village church is a rectangular stone church from the 13th century. Its walls were partially renovated with bricks in the 18th century. A boarded-up square tower with a high and pointed eight-sided helmet is placed on the roof in the style of a roof ridge. The carved altar from around 1500 and a Knuth tombstone from 1370 are among the important furnishings of the church.
  • The Leizener manor house, built in 1898 in the Wilhelminian style, now serves as a hotel, the former warehouse of the estate is u. a. used by the volunteer fire department.
  • The estate in the Woldzegarten district has now also been converted into a hotel. The manor's large granary serves as a culture barn, among other things, for various cultural purposes.
