history

Manor building in Hohen Wangelin (2010)

The originally Slavic settlement Hohen Wangelin first appeared in a document in 1319.

The Cramon estate was taken over by the Malchow monastery in 1803 . At the end of the 19th century it was leased with over 1400 hectares and a large number of livestock. In 1928 the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin took over the estate as a domain. In 1945 it was expropriated and resettled with 16 families from Neubauer , later LPG and then attached to the Hohen Wangelin estate. The manor house was demolished in 1978, and many of the earlier farm buildings no longer exist. Today there is an equestrian facility on the estate.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Cramon, Liepen and Malkwitz were incorporated.

politics

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE HOHEN WANGELIN • LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".

Worth seeing

Village church in Hohen Wangelin

The village church Hohen Wangelin is a brick church from the 15th century, in 1868 it got two neo-Gothic portal halls and a new interior. It serves the Evangelical Lutheran parish, which is organized in the Güstrow parish.

The four-sided layout of the former estate ensemble is also worth seeing . Some of the farm buildings are in a state of disrepair; the former manor house now houses a pension and the savings bank.

The community's club life is supported by the sports club, the volunteer fire brigade , the rural women’s club , the allotment garden club and the Cramon riding club.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community's infrastructure includes a day-care center, a doctor's practice, a hairdressing salon, a clubhouse and a retail company.

In addition to a new residential area, an industrial area was created near the federal motorway 19 (A 19). It houses two building material plants, a gravel plant and two forwarding agents. In 2011, the rest of the industrial park with a size of around 16 hectares was sold in order to install photovoltaic systems. Solum 12 GmbH, based in Kölln, was founded for this purpose. Around 16 hectares are built on in the first section. In the second section, another twelve hectares of open space systems were built on the former VEG site. The developer here is a subsidiary of WEMAG . Both solar power plants have been on the grid since June 2014.

traffic

The federal road 108 runs through the eastern municipality . Country roads connect Hohen Wangelin with the city of Waren (Müritz) . The next train station is in Silz . State road 204 runs through the Hohen Wangelin industrial park to the Linstow junction of the A 19. The former route through the districts of Cramon and Hohen Wangelin is now a municipal road.

Personalities

The writer and literary critic Peter Jokostra (1912-2007) ran a farm from 1935 to 1941 in the municipality of Liepen , which later became part of Hohen Wangelin. He processed the memories from this time in the novel Damals in Mecklenburg , which was published in 1990 by Langen Müller Verlag .
