The Evangelical Church is a listed church building in Hohen Wangelin , a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It belongs to the Neustrelitz Propstei of the Mecklenburg Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

History and architecture

A previous church is believed to have been in the village around 1244. The church was originally donated by local farmers and later became the patronage of the von Maltzahn family .

The rectangular, Gothic church building with a 5/10 end in the east was bricked in brick in the 15th century . It stands on a granite and field stone base . The church was devastated in the Thirty Years War . The neo-Gothic vestibules to the west and south were added during a major renovation in 1868. In the same year the stair tower and the sacristy were added to the north side.

The interior is spanned by three ribbed vaults.

The west tower is as wide as the ship , it is open to the ship with a wide arch, as a second yoke . The spire was damaged by a storm; it was restored in 1991 including the bell and the weather vane with ball.

Furnishing

  • Most of the wooden furnishings date from around 1868.
  • The altar painting from 1869 shows the crucifixion, it is signed with Th. Fischer .
  • In the cemetery there is a remarkable granite baptism .
  • The organ was built by Lütkemüller in 1869 .
