The Malchow office is located in the west of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It borders in the northwest on the Rostock district and in the west on the Ludwigslust-Parchim district .
Eight municipalities and the city of Malchow (official seat) are united in the Malchow Office to handle their administrative business. The office was formed on January 1, 2005 from the former office Malchow-Land and the formerly free city of Malchow. Concurrent with the formation of the Office merged the previously independent municipalities Adamshoffnung, Grüssow, Kogel, Rogeez and Satow the new municipality Fünfseen , was further Lexow after Walow incorporated.
Agriculture and tourism characterize the forest and lake-rich area of the office, which has shares in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature park in the north . The larger lakes in the administrative area include Drewitzer See and parts of Plauer See , Fleesensee and Kölpinsee . The Müritz-Elde waterway , which runs through the district, connects the large lakes Müritz , Kölpin, Fleesen and Plauer See. The Plauer Werder peninsula, which extends far into the Plauer See, belongs to the municipality of Alt Schwerin . The lake level is 62 m above sea level. NHN , the hilly country around Malchow reaches a maximum of 122 m above sea level (near Fünfseen-Kogel).
The federal motorway 19 runs through the official area from Berlin to Rostock with the interchanges Malchow and Waren (Müritz) as well as the federal highway 192 from Wismar via Waren (Müritz) to Neubrandenburg . The train stations in Alt Schwerin, Malchow and Silz are on the Waren (Müritz) –Parchim branch line .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The office does not have an officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn neck fur and crown and the inscription "AMT MALCHOW".
