The office of Demmin-Land is based in the non-official Hanseatic city of Demmin . 16 municipalities are united to carry out their administration . The area of the office extends to the north of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which was newly created in the course of the district reform in 2011 . Historically, Demmin and the so-called Demminer Land belong to Western Pomerania .
The office, which has existed since 1994, originally included eleven parishes. On June 1, 2004, five previously independent towns were incorporated: Hohenbrünzow (zu Hohenmocker), Quitzerow (zu Kletzin), Sanzkow (zu Siedenbrünzow), Teusin (zu Utzedel) and Wotenick (zu Demmin). Just a month later, the official area was expanded to include the ten dissolved municipalities of the former Borrentin office .

The office does not have an officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "AMT DEMMIN - LAND * LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".
