Wotenick

Wotenick is a formerly independent municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District with (2014) a little over 200 inhabitants. It was incorporated into the former district town of Demmin on June 1, 2004 .

Wotenick was first documented on September 9, 1171, when Henry the Lion Wotencha and four other villages at the inauguration of Schwerin Cathedral the diocese of Schwerin gave. Until 1211 further documents confirmed the possession of the Schwerin diocese. In the 13th century the village became the property of the diocese of Cammin . In 1277 Duke Barnim I exchanged Wotenick and Seedorf for two villages near Germin ( Jarmen ).

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Seedorf was incorporated.

Wotenick became known nationwide through the documentary film of the same name by Axel Kalhorn from 1999. Using the location as an example, it deals with the problem of mass unemployment among young people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The film was shown at the Berlinale 2000 , among others , and was nominated for the documentary award.

In the village there is an agricultural estate with horse breeding owned by the family of the famous show jumper Ludger Beerbaum .

The Nikolaikirche is one of the sights .
