Peninsula with the remains of a medieval castle |
|
The Schönhauser See is around 25 hectares of water in Schönhausen , a municipality in the east of the Mecklenburg Lake District in southeast Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The lake is located in the south-east of the district and connects to the east of the residential development around the classicist manor house by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel . To the east of the building is a peninsula with a diameter of around 15 m × 10 m. There was a castle there in the Middle Ages, which had been built by the local knighthood. With the development of firearms , the castle no longer offered sufficient protection and was abandoned. It is under protection as a ground monument.
The lake is used by visitors to the manor house for recreation, swimming and fishing. Eels , perch , bream , pike , rudd , tench and pikeperch live in the lake .
