Dahmen is a municipality in the southeast of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Mecklenburg Switzerland Office with its seat in the non-official city of Teterow .

The municipality of Dahmen between Teterow and Waren (Müritz) is located on the southern shore of Lake Malchiner in the middle of the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower Lake Nature Park . While the shore area is only slightly above sea level, the western parts of the municipality in the terminal moraine area of Mecklenburg Switzerland reach heights of up to 90 m above sea level. NN. The Mecklenburg Lake District borders the east and south of the Dahmen district . The Westpeene flows through the municipal area, coming from Hohen Wangelin , district Liepen , into the Malchiner See.

Dahmen is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Groß Wokern , Hohen Demzin and Schorssow in the north, Malchin in the northeast, Basedow in the east, Moltzow in the southeast, Klocksin in the south, Vollrathsruhe in the southwest and west and Lalendorf in the northwest.

Districts

The districts of Barz , Bockholt , Große Luckow , Hüttenkoppel , Neu Ziddorf , Rothenmoor and Ziddorf belong to Dahmen .

history

Dahmen was first mentioned in a document in 1235. The name probably comes from the Slavic word dab or dabele for oak . The medieval Gothic church has been preserved. From 1371 to 1877 the estate was owned by the von Maltzahn family . The remains of the sugar factory from 1876 have been preserved. In 2010 the citizens of Damen voted unsuccessfully against a change of district. Agriculture and tourism characterize the community today.

Großen Luckow : The estate was owned by various lines of the von Maltzahn family from 1421 to 1945.

Rothenmoor was first mentioned in 1414. At Rothenmoor there is the castle valley with a Wendish rampart. The manor house was built in the 17th century and has been rebuilt several times since then. In the second half of the 19th century, the von Maltzahn family owned the estate, after which it was owned by the von Tiele-Winckler family until 1945 .

Ziddorf was first mentioned in 1422. The water mill was built in 1866 by Count Rudolph von Bassewitz.

The coat of arms was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on May 14, 2001 and registered under the number 243 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The coat of arms was designed by the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick .

The flag of the municipality is evenly striped across the longitudinal axis of the flag cloth of gold (yellow) and blue. In the middle of the flag, spanning a third of the length of both stripes, is the municipal coat of arms. The length of the flag is related to the height as 5: 3.

  • Water mill in Ziddorf from 1866; Builder Count Rudolph von Bassewitz. It was in the company until 1975 and was later used as a sales point and medical practice. The stream with the mill pond was drained. After 1994 the mill had various users, including a. the women's workshop that made textiles, carpets and pottery.

Transport links

The federal road 108 (from Waren (Müritz) to Teterow ) leads through the municipality of Dahmen . Important roads to Malchin and Malchow branch off near the Ziddorf district . The next train stations are in Teterow, Malchin and Waren (Müritz).

The Deutsche Alleenstrasse runs through the village .
