The municipality of Penzin - in terms of area the smallest municipality in the district - is located between the cities of Bützow and Kröpelin , about 30 km southwest of Rostock . The predominantly flat and northeast of Penzin z. T. marshy terrain reaches a maximum of 19 m above sea level. NN.

Penzin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Klein Belitz in the north and east and Bernitt in the south and west.

history

Penzin was first mentioned in 1318. The community is characterized by agriculture (grain and livestock farming) and crafts.

The name comes from the Old Slavic name pąk based on the locator , i.e. place of Pęča .

Penzin increased its population by eleven percent in 2007.

Transport links

The community is on the road connecting Bützow to Kröpelin. The A 20 passes seven kilometers away (junction Kröpelin ). The nearest train station is in Bützow, eight km away.
