Life

Bachmann studied art education at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald with various teachers such as Martin Franz , Konrad Homberg and Harald Hakenbeck . Contacts were made with Otto Niemeyer-Holstein , Carl Hinrichs and Armin Münch .

After graduating, she worked for several years as a teacher and in various other professions and took on the upbringing of two children. In 1979 she moved to Berlin and started working as a freelance painter and ceramist.

Christel Bachmann's art is represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Works by her are in various public collections. Since 2004 she has had her own gallery in Berlin. Christel Bachmann creates paintings using oil or acrylic technology. To do this, she uses watercolor, tempera or pastel colors. Lithographs or charcoal drawings are a graphic addition.

Landscapes are thematically represented - it is not uncommon for them to be motifs that she finds right on her doorstep on the Kienberg .

Pastel tones are primarily applied to the canvas with a lively style. The style can be classified between abstract and representational.

Time and again, she feels the need to take up social issues. These are changes such as those that came with the turnaround. It can be about very personal upheavals or turning points, as they tend to occur in certain phases of life. The painting “Bruch II” shows how a young man suddenly turns once more to the old man he is leaving behind on his way to new shores. Essential life crises, the difficult self-discovery, the phase after school, women's issues, relationship issues, old and young, such socially and politically relevant questions move the artist. “In the country after the war” is about impressions from a vacation in Croatia : The war was still present through rubble, bullet holes on house walls and a freshly laid out cemetery where lots of young people were buried. But at the same time weddings were celebrated and the tourists sunbathed. Your works are full of soul. They take a stand, they stir up and encourage.

Christel Bachmann's works are in public and private collections throughout Germany.
