Harald Hakenbeck

Harald Hakenbeck (born September 20, 1926 in Stettin ) is a painter and graphic artist . He was best known for his pictures "Peter in the Zoo" (1961) and "The Children of Algeria" (1962).

Life

After his apprenticeship as a commercial employee (1942–1944) with a health insurance company , military service and British prisoner of war , Harald Hakenbeck studied from 1947 to 1953 at the University of Fine and Applied Arts Berlin-Weißensee a . a. with Arno Mohr and Bert Heller . After completing his studies with a diploma in wall design, he was a master student with Heinrich Ehmsen at the German Academy of the Arts from 1954 to 1957 , after which he was a freelance painter and graphic artist. In 1958 he traveled to Albania, in 1963 to Burma and Indonesia. From 1965 to 1968 lecturer at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald , from 1974 to 1980 at the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee . After giving up his studio at Frankfurter Tor in 1990, he continues to draw and has written several volumes of poetry .

From 1954 to 1990 Harald Hakenbeck was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , at times also as head of the painter and graphic artist section.

He had his breakthrough in 1961 with his picture Peter in the zoo , which shows his son Peter in a winter zoo landscape . The picture was exhibited at the Fifth German Art Exhibition in 1962/63 and printed in 1967 as a postage stamp with an edition of four million. Since then it has been known to many as an art print and illustration in school books.

Study trips took Harald Hakenbeck to Albania (1958), Burma and Indonesia (1963).
