The Marzahn town hall is a monument and former town hall in the Marzahn district of Berlin in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district . It's on Helene-Weigel-Platz .
history
The town hall was built as a prefabricated building block between 1986 and 1988 and opened on January 10, 1989 according to the designs of a collective of architects from Civil Engineering Berlin by Wolf-Rüdiger Eisentraut, Karla Bock and Bernd Walther . It was actually supposed to be built on the Marzahner Promenade . For a short time it was the official seat of the former SED mayor Gerd Cyske, later of SPD mayor Andreas Röhl and his PDS successor Harald Buttler. In 2001 there was a district merger of Marzahn and Hellersdorf and a reorganization of the administrative structure. The former town hall became the service building for various departments and district services.
architecture
The building is a cubic steel frame construction with a facade made of large concrete panels with split brick patterns and a green foyer . Due to its individuality, the town hall is one of the sophisticated buildings of the late GDR and has been a listed building since 2008.
