Armin Münch (graphic designer)

Armin Münch (born May 1, 1930 in Rabenau near Dresden; † August 21, 2013 in Rostock ) was a German graphic artist , draftsman and university teacher . Münch was considered one of the most important contemporary draftsmen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Life

Münch grew up in the small Saxon town of Rabenau and experienced the bombing of Dresden as a teenager in February 1945 . He began his artistic career as a graphic draftsman at Sachsenverlag Dresden . From 1950 to 1955 he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts , he graduated with the work Die Fischer vom Kap Arkona . In 1955 Münch moved to Rostock to live by the sea, which inspired him as an artist throughout his life. From 1958 to 1960 he was a master class student for graphics at the German Academy of the Arts in Berlin (East) with Hans Theo Richter , Max Schwimmer and Josef Hegenbarth . From 1960 to 1970 Münch worked as a freelance graphic artist and draftsman in Rostock and has lived in Lütten Klein since then . In 1970 Armin Münch received the GDR National Prize and since then has also devoted himself to art education, later mainly by the sea. In 1970 he was given a teaching position as a lecturer at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and from 1976 to 1991 he was a full professor at the University of Greifswald . From 1996 to 2000 he had a teaching position at the University of Rostock and since 1995 also in the examination board of the private art college in Bochum (IBKK) . Münch was a member of the "Rostock Art Association of 1841".

In May 2001 the University of Rostock took over 15,000 drawings, prints and sketchbooks from Armin Münch.
