history

The first documentary mention of Blankenhagen comes from the year 1233. It was made by an episcopal order over the tithe in the parish of Ribnitz.

The church was first mentioned in a document on August 23, 1318 and in the Middle Ages belonged to the Archdeaconate of Rostock. The founder and builder of the church was the noble Moltke family , who also held the patronage . The first mention shows that a Johann Moltke donated a vicarage for the priest Ghodefridus in the church in Blankenhagen. The Moltkes are no longer traceable in Blankenhagen in 1361. As early as the 14th century, the place was probably incorporated into the ducal domanium. In 1421 Duke Albrecht V pledged the place to Rostock's mayor, Katzow. It is not known when it fell back to the sovereign. It is documented that Blankenhagen was pledged in 1670 by Duke Gustav Adolf von Mecklenburg to the widow of Eckhard von der Lühe . This family owned Blankenhagen until 1704 when it was bought back by the duke.

On January 1, 2012, the previously independent community of Mandelshagen was incorporated into Blankenhagen.

The flag of the municipality of Blankenhagen is striped in gold (yellow), green and gold (yellow) across the longitudinal axis of the flag cloth. The golden (yellow) stripes each take up a quarter, the green stripe takes up half the length of the flag cloth. In the middle of the green stripe are the figures of the municipality's coat of arms, tinged according to the flag: two diagonally crossed golden lifting hooks over six (3: 2: 1) golden rape blossoms. The figures occupy a total of 13/15 the height of the flag cloth. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.
