Blankenhagen Church

The village church Blankenhagen is a church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Blankenhagen in the district of Rostock . The parish belongs to the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

history

The first documentary mention of Blankenhagen comes from the year 1233. It was made by an episcopal order over the tithe in the parish of Ribnitz. The church was first mentioned in a document on August 23, 1318 and in the Middle Ages belonged to the Archdeaconate of Rostock. The founder and builder of the church was the noble Moltke family , who also held the patronage . The first mention shows that a Johann Moltke donated a vicarage for the priest Ghodefridus in the church in Blankenhagen.

Building description

The two-bay choir

The church is made of field stones. Stylistically, it belongs to the transition period between Romanesque and Gothic . Were on the gables, and the window and door openings bricks used. The two-bay choir has a flat east end. A sacristy is also built from field stones to the north of the choir . The transition from the ribbed vaulted choir to the flat-roofed nave forms a triumphal arch . Some parts of the church date from the 13th century. The wooden west tower with a four-sided pyramid helmet and a southern half-timbered extension were built later. In the east wall of the choir there is a three-part pointed arch window with a round window above. A portal on the west side was bricked up.

Furnishing

Schnitger organ from 1686

The altar and pulpit are neo-Gothic . The altarpiece by Gaston Lenthe shows the resurrection of Christ. The windows of the choir show heraldic paintings, including that of Gebhard von Moltke.

Significant is the Arp Schnitger - organ of 1686 by the organ builder 2002/2003 Schuke was restored Potsdam. It has 12 registers on two manuals. 4–5 registers are from Schnitger. The pedal (C – d 1 ) is attached.
