Groß Schwiesow is a municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Güstrow-Land Office , based in the non-official district town of Güstrow .

geography

The community is located in the triangle of the cities of Güstrow, Bützow and Schwaan , 30 km south of Rostock . The Ice Age area around Groß Schwiesow is characterized by its very high proportion of forest in the form of pine and beech forests and is slightly hilly. To the south, the terrain slopes down to the low of the Nebel and the parallel Bützow-Güstrow Canal . The northern neighboring municipality Kassow is in the office Schwaan .

Groß Schwiesow is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Kassow in the north, Mistorf in the northeast, Lüssow in the east, Gülzow-Prüzen in the south and Zepelin in the west.

The district of Klein Schwiesow belongs to Groß Schwiesow.

history

The first mention of the place Groß Schwiesow can be found in a document from the year 1237, but the first hesitant settlement of the district took place several millennia earlier.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Klein Schwiesow was incorporated.

Thomas Körting (Agricultural Voting Association) was elected to succeed Inge Kiel in May 2014.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is predominantly agricultural. In 2001 the almost dilapidated building of the old warehouse was expanded by the Schwiesower Freizeit- und Kulturtreff association into a community center, where various events and festivals take place.

For fans of motorsport, the grounds of the MSC Groß Schwiesow are available, on which u. a. Since 1986 a motocross event has been held annually on May 1st .

Transport links

The federal highway 19 (Berlin – Rostock) runs approx. 16 kilometers west of Groß Schwiesow (junction Laage, Glasewitz or Güstrow ). The connecting road from Güstrow to Bützow runs through the community. The next train stations are in the neighboring municipality of Lüssow and in Bützow .
