history
Benitz was first mentioned in a document in 1270. The manor house, which is now used as a residential building, was built between 1815 and 1816 and converted into a two-story building at the end of the 19th century through renovations and additions. The former servants' part of the building has a vaulted cellar and today houses the community center and is the seat of the Benitz volunteer fire department . At the beginning of the 20th century Dutch guest workers came to Benitz in the course of gravel mining and built several pointed barrel roof houses. These are unique in Mecklenburg and are under monument protection. The Benitzer gravel pit is located southeast of the village not far from the Warnow bank. The mining ended in the 1960s. Remains of the loading dock are still visible in the Warnow.
