Karl Baur (pilot)

Karl Baur (born November 13, 1911 in Laichingen , † October 12, 1963 in Texas ) was a German pilot , flight instructor and engineer .

Karl Baur came to aviation through model aircraft and glider flying and received his pilot's license in 1931. Through contact with Wolf Hirth , he became a member of Akaflieg in 1929 . He completed his mechanical engineering studies at the Technical University of Stuttgart in 1938.

As chief test pilot at Messerschmitt in Augsburg , he oversaw the development of the Bf 109 , Me 262 and other prototypes. Baur flew all Messerschmitt models from World War II.

From 1954 he worked as an engineer in the USA .
