Zepelin is a municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ( Germany ). The community is administered by the Bützow-Land office , based in the city of Bützow .
geography
The municipality of Zepelins between Bützow and Güstrow is bordered by the Nebel river in the south and the Warnow in the north . Zepelin is located on the Bützow-Güstrow Canal (built 1894 to 1896), which runs parallel to the Nebel. The terrain is flat and reaches 29 m above sea level near the Oettelin district. NN. Zepelin is characterized by agriculture.
The districts of the municipality are Zepelin, Oettelin and Zepelin expansion. Between 1990 and 2001 the district of Oettelin was an independent municipality.
history
The place name Cepelin appears for the first time in 1246, but the place was founded by German settlers as an anger village about 100 years earlier . It was the eponymous ancestral seat of the von Zeppelin family . The cemetery with the chapel and the pond date from the 14th century. After major fires at the end of the 19th century, the outdoor area of Zepelin was heavily developed. The district of Oettelin (incorporated on August 1, 2001) was first mentioned in 1285.
