Groß Roge is a municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Mecklenburg Switzerland Office with its seat in the non-official city of Teterow .
geography
The community of Groß Roge is located in the west of Mecklenburg Switzerland , right next to the Mecklenburg Switzerland Nature Park and Kummerower See and only approx. 5 km from the city of Teterow. The municipality extends from the slopes of the 100 m high Teterower Heidberge in the east to the Radener See in the west. The Teterower Bergring is only a few hundred meters east of the Mieckow district.
Groß Roge is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Dalkendorf in the north, Teterow in the east, Groß Wokern in the south and Lalendorf in the west.

history
Before the German expansion to the east, Slavic Wilsen settled in the municipality , the more than 1100 year old castle complex in the district of Zierstorf still bears witness to this today.
From 1828 the agricultural pioneer, domain councilor Carl Pogge, worked in the district of Zierstorf .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Wotrum was incorporated.
Groß Roge is characterized by agriculture, in the largely intact nature with forest areas and wetlands, black woodpeckers , stock doves , cranes and gray geese can be observed.

- Gutshaus Zierstorf with exhibitions by the Heimatverein zu Carl and Johann Pogge and the Africa researcher Paul Pogge , who was born in Zierstorf.
- Gutshaus Klein Roge: Classicist , two-storey, ten-axis plastered building from the mid-19th century with a medium risalit ; Well owned by the Held (1836–1925) and Domansky (until 1945) families.

Transport links
The community is on the federal highway 104 from Güstrow to Teterow, in Groß Roge a connection road branches off to Krakow am See . The Güstrow junction on the A 19 ( Rostock - Berlin ) is 12 km away . The next train station is in the neighboring community of Groß Wokern .
