history

The area was already settled in Slavic times, as evidenced by ceramic finds from the area.

Schorssow was first mentioned in a document in 1372. The destroyed desert church came from the middle of the 14th century. Gut Schorssow belonged to the von Maltzahn (1400–1545), von Moltke (until 1816), von Hahn (from 1820), von Tiele-Winckler (1890–1929) families and the mill owner Kurt Kampffmeyer from Potsdam, who owned the estate until 1945 . The manor house dates from 1730, was rebuilt in a classicist style in 1812 , was a day nursery, company kitchen and community office after 1945 and is now a hotel.

Bristow was first mentioned in 1297. The Bristow village church was built around 1590. The Bristow estate has been owned by the von Hahn family since 1352 and by the Counts of Bassewitz- Levetzow from 1845 to 1945 (see below). Bristow belonged to the Malchin district until 1952 and then to the Teterow district .

Bülow: The village church of Bülow dates from around 1235. Gut Bülow was owned by Volrath Hanensee until 1372, followed by von Moltzan auf Schorssow and in the middle of the 17th century by the von Moltke family, 1816 Johann Heinrich Degener, 1845 Karl Christian Erbrecht, In 1859 the von Bülow family, in 1890 the von Tiele-Winckler family , until in 1929, together with Schorssow, it came to the mill owner Kurt Kampffmeyer, who owned the estate until 1945. The classicist manor house dates from around 1800. Bülow and its district of Schorssow belonged to the district of Waren until 1952 , so they were separated from Bristow by a district boundary. From 1952 they belonged to the Teterow district.

Bristow

  • The Bristow village church is the oldest Protestant village church in Mecklenburg, donated in the 1590s by Werner Hahn (1515–93) from the Basedow family and splendidly furnished in the Renaissance style by his son Hans Hahn (1558–1633) . The altar, pulpit and organ gallery are still original from the time it was built around 1600. A special feature is Werner Hahn's testament, carved in four limestone tablets. The German Foundation for Monument Protection took part in the restoration of the church and organ in the 1990s.
  • Manor with royal stables from 1866 in Tudor style , granary built in 1868 by Count Carl August von Bassewitz-Levetzow, field stone barn, dovecote from 1891 and other farm buildings from 1865 in Tudor style. The one-storey manor house with a columned portal burned down in 1919, after which the estate manager's house next to it was occupied by the Bassewitz family.
  • Bassewitz's mausoleum was built next to the church in 1874 in the neo-Renaissance style. When the manor house burned down in 1919, the von Bassewitz family moved into a farm building converted for residential purposes. In the three-storey pigeon house, a “Cinderella Museum” was set up, which explains the cultural history of pigeon keeping.

Economy and Transport

In addition to the traditionally formative agriculture, the development of tourism in the Mecklenburg Switzerland area has become an important economic factor. In recent years, among other things, a castle hotel has been built from the old Schorssow manor house.

The parts of the community are connected to one another by the road on the high bank of Lake Malchiner. The districts of Schorssow and Carlshof are close to the B 108 from Teterow to Waren (Müritz) . The nearest train station is in Teterow ( Güstrow - Neubrandenburg line ).
