history

Nustrow Castle with castle facilities 1758

Nustrow was mentioned in a document on March 16, 1425 as slot Nusserouwe . At the time, the castle owner was Gerd Behr, who, after the destruction of the castle in 1420 by the cities of Greifswald and Stralsund, pledged not to rebuild the castle in this document. Obviously he didn't stick to it.

Nustrow Castle 1825

The place was mentioned again in 1479 as Nuttzerow and its name is likely to be of Slavic origin. The Behr family had lived here since the 15th century and also owned a castle or palace. The first castle was completely destroyed in a feud between Stralsund and Greifswald. A renaissance castle was built around 1532 , which was demolished in 1830 after the estate was sold to the von Schack family in 1794 . The latter had the classicist manor house, which is preserved today, built according to plans by the architect Carl Theodor Severin .

Before being demolished and rebuilt, the ramparts were leveled and the trenches were filled in with the earthwork.

The Catholics are assigned to the parish Herz Jesu with seat in Rostock , Archdiocese of Hamburg ; their nearest branch churches are St. Ansgar (Gnoien) and St. Bernhard (Ticino) .
