The east-facing choir and the sacristy of the church that adjoins it to the north are the oldest components and were probably built as field stone buildings as early as the 13th century . The choir is covered by an eight-ribbed domical vault , the sacristy by a ribbed vault . Consisting of bricks running nave of the church is on two yokes and was the plan for a domed basilica planned, but was never completed, are spanned by which the three ships of the church today by an equally high, flat wooden ceiling. The roof is nevertheless stepped on the outside like a basilica. The nave and the vestibule attached to the south of the choir probably date from the 14th century.

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1364. The oldest pieces of equipment include remains of medieval glass windows and the substructure of the baptismal font . The church's exceptional art treasures include the numerous preserved patronage stalls from the 16th century, including two stalls from 1542 and 1567 belonging to the Bassewitz family , named after their seat in Basse. In addition, in the church above the north aisle there are two patron saints from the 16th and 18th centuries as well as historical stalls and grave slabs of the Moltke , Behr and Maltzahn families .

In the church there are several historical Bassewitz grave slabs, the oldest from 1391, a particularly ornate one with relief depictions of the deceased from 1572. There is also an ornate grave slab of the Behr family from the late 17th century. In the choir of the church there is a historical Bassewitz epitaph from 1592 with rows of coats of arms, reliefs and three donor figures from the workshop of Claus Midow .

The pulpit hanging on the right chancel arch dates from 1703, the two-storey column structure of the altar with central biblical depictions dates from 1729.

The church has no tower. To hang the bell, which was cast by Johann Valentin Schultz in 1756, a free-standing wooden belfry was built on the west side of the building in the 19th century . An extensive renovation of the church took place between 1961 and 1964.
