Plaaz is a municipality in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The community is administered by the Güstrow-Land Office, which is based in the non-official city of Güstrow .
geography
The municipality of Plaaz between the cities of Güstrow, Laage and Teterow is located at the transition from the Recknitz Urstromtal to Mecklenburg Switzerland . The terrain rises gradually to the east and reaches over 95 m above sea level on the western foothills of the Schmooksberg , whose highest point is already in the municipality of Laage . NHN .
Plaaz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Laage in the northeast, Lalendorf in the southeast, Glasewitz and Güstrow in the southwest, Sarmstorf in the west and Kuhs in the northwest.
The districts of Mierendorf, Recknitz and Spoitgendorf, Wendorf and Zapkendorf belong to Plaaz.
history
Plaaz , an originally Slavic settlement, appears for the first time in a document in 1281. Until 1963 Plaaz was part of the municipality of Zapkendorf and became an independent municipality on January 1, 1964 with the districts of Wendorf and Zapkendorf.
Spoitgendorf: Good u. a. owned by the von Vieregge (before 1753) and von Buch (1753–1945) families . The manor house (castle) dates from 1893 and was used as a residence and restaurant after 1945.

Recknitz was incorporated on January 1, 2005.
Attractions
- Early Gothic Recknitz village church as a field stone church from the middle of the 13th century; later additions made of brick. The upper part of the tower was added as a timber framework and it has a half-hip roof .
- Large stone grave between Plaaz and Diekhof
- Manor house (manor house) Spoitgendorf: Neo-Gothic , renovated, 2 and 3-storey, yellow brick building from 1893 according to plans by Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel ; today tourist use.
Transport links
To the west of Plaaz, Autobahn 19 runs from Berlin to Rostock ( Glasewitz junction ). In the district of Spoitgendorf in the south is the Recknitzniederung tank and rest area . A connecting road from Güstrow to the B 108 leads through the municipality .
Plaaz has a train station on the Rostock – Neustrelitz and Plaaz – Güstrow lines . It is served every hour Monday - Friday and every two hours on weekends by the Rostock S-Bahn S3 trains on the Rostock - Laage - Güstrow route.
