The Priemerburg – Plaaz line is a single-track, electrified branch line in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Route

Transfer of the Priemerburg – Plaaz line over the Güstrow – Meyenburg (left) and Bützow – Szczecin (right) line

Like the Güstrow – Meyenburg railway line , the line to Plaaz does not separate from the line to Neubrandenburg in Güstrow , but only in Priemerburg, three kilometers to the east . There it leads south and crosses the other routes on a bridge. On the right is the route of the former connecting curve to Priemerwald Süd. After driving through a forest area, the Glasewitz stop, which was closed in 1993, is passed through, of which there are hardly any traces left. The following section runs through open, hilly landscape. The Mierendorf stop was outside the town in an open field. Shortly afterwards, the line joins the Lloydbahn south of the former Plaaz train station, which has now been converted into a stop .

history

Beginnings until 1945

The Güstrow-Plauer Railway opened its main line from Güstrow to Plau in 1882, which was later extended to Meyenburg. In 1886 the Lloydbahn followed with the Neustrelitz – Rostock connection, which, however, passed the city of Güstrow. As a result, the Güstrow-Plauer-Eisenbahn opened a ten-kilometer connection to Plaaz on the Lloydbahn in 1887. The importance of the route was limited to local traffic, especially since the direct connection from Güstrow to Rostock with the Güstrow – Schwaan railway went into operation in 1887 .

In 1890 the Güstrow-Plauer railway company was taken over by the state and incorporated into the also nationalized Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn .

In the first half of the 20th century, traffic consisted of three to four pairs of trains a day between Güstrow and Plaaz, which in Plaaz mostly had a connection to the Lloydbahn trains to Rostock.

1945–1990

After the Lloydbahn south of Plaaz was dismantled as reparation to the Soviet Union after the Second World War , the trains ran from Güstrow via Plaaz to Rostock. It stayed that way even after the Lloydbahn was rebuilt. The line had additional importance in the first years after the Second World War until 1948, because after the dismantling of the Rostock – Schwaan – Bützow line, it was the only connection from Rostock to the south.

The importance of the route in freight traffic grew with the construction of the Rostock overseas port around 1960. The connecting route from Kavelstorf to the port of Bützow and Güstrow could be reached via it . The lines from Neubrandenburg and Pritzwalk were also connected via a newly built connecting curve to the Priemerwald Süd depot. This relieved the Rostock and Güstrow nodes. The connecting curve was built on two tracks so that trains could cross there. The line was also electrified in 1985, primarily for freight traffic. Passenger traffic was limited all these years to about six pairs of trains a day Güstrow – Plaaz – Rostock, the line speed remained on branch line standard.

Occasionally there were also express trains on the route, such as the Rostock-Güstrow-Hamburg-Cologne interzone train in 1988/89, which connected Güstrow on this route without having to worry about it .

Since 1990

With the decline in freight traffic, the Priemerwald connecting curve became superfluous and was closed in 1995 and subsequently dismantled. Passenger traffic was synchronized in 1996, and trains have run every two hours since then. Since 2000 it was operated by the Ostmecklenburgischer Eisenbahn (later Ostseeland Verkehr ). After a year-and-a-half closure due to the renovation of the subsequent Lloydbahn section, the trains have been running again between Rostock, Plaaz and Güstrow every two hours since June 2007, which was reduced to one hour every Monday to Friday morning and afternoon. Used came Bombardier Talent railcars.

On December 9, 2012, the line was included in the Rostock S-Bahn network and has since been used by the new S3 line (Güstrow – Rostock Hbf – Warnemünde) every hour, every two hours on weekends. The Mierendorf stop was abandoned at the same time. The stop in Glasewitz was closed in 1993.
