The Baltic Verkehr GmbH ( OLA ) was a railway company (TOC) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . It was created in 2005 through the merger of the Ostmecklenburgische Eisenbahn (OME), the first private railway in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and the MecklenburgBahn (MEBA). Transdev GmbH , the parent company of the former OME, holds 70% and Nahverkehr Schwerin , that of the former MEBA, holds 30% of the shares.

The OLA operated the local rail passenger transport on several lines in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania until 2013 and on two lines in the state of Brandenburg until 2011 . As of the timetable change in December 2013, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ordered the services previously operated by OLA from other providers, so that OLA has no longer operated local rail passenger transport since then. Furthermore, the OLA was the operator of the first privately operated long-distance train in Germany, the InterConnex, until 2014 .

development

In spring 2005 the Ostmecklenburgische Eisenbahn and the MecklenburgBahn merged to form the Ostseeland Verkehr. Although the names OME and MEBA were to be retained at the beginning, all railcars were given OLA stickers. Furthermore, press releases and timetable information were published uniformly via the OLA.

In 2011, OLA employed 168 people and achieved an annual turnover of 48.3 million euros. It carried around 4.9 million passengers a year (as of 2008) in local , long-distance rail and bus transport .

The company owned 16 railcars , 6 of the LINT 41 type and 10 Talent , as well as 70  buses , and had workshops and branches in Neubrandenburg and Schwerin. Some Talent multiple units were sold to the Bayerische Oberlandbahn in 2014 .

Holdings

OLA has been the sole shareholder of Personenverkehr GmbH Müritz , Waren (Müritz) , since April 1, 2006 . The shares in Personenverkehr Müritz GmbH were sold to the municipal MVVG on January 1, 2017 . From the beginning of 2017, this will carry out all regular services in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

In 2006 and 2007, OLA held a 51% share in the Löcknitz company Orwat Bus GmbH & Co. KG .

Were also connected to Veolia Transport customer service and the railway workshop-Gesellschaft mbH (Neubrandenburg). The latter operated OLA's own railcar workshop in the east of Neubrandenburg. The workshop was taken over by Deutsche Bahn.

Local rail transport

After the merger of OME and MEBA, OLA took over operations on several lines in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from the two predecessor companies in local rail passenger transport. She lost two lines in 2009 and 2011 as a result of tenders. In 2011, OLA also lost operations on two lines in the state of Brandenburg, which it had taken over two years earlier.

In 2012, OLA did not take part in the new tender for the connections between Lübeck, Bützow, Güstrow, Neubrandenburg, Pasewalk and Ueckermünde, which had been in operation since 2005, due to the parent company's corporate policy at the time. As a result, DB Regio was the only applicant to be awarded the contract, which will operate the connections from December 2014. The OLA later objected to this decision as the tender conditions were later changed. It was now defeated by the Rostock Higher Regional Court .

The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also decided not to give OLA a follow-up order for the contracts on all routes that expired at the end of 2013. On the one hand, this concerned the bridging services between Bützow and Ueckermünde or Neustrelitz and Stralsund from the end of 2013 to the start of the new contract at the end of 2014. DB Regio was designated by the state as the operator for this one year. On the other hand, there was the Rehna - Schwerin - Parchim line, which has not yet been put out to tender in a new tendering process. The East German Railway has been the new operator here since December 2013. The OLA had sued against these transitional awards. The suit was also dismissed by the Rostock Higher Regional Court in November 2013.

Since 2002, OME has operated the InterConnex, the first private long-distance train in Germany. The OLA was the operator of this train from the merger in 2005 until it was discontinued in December 2014.
