history

A Desiro of the OME (2004)

The OME emerged in the spring of 1997 from the industrial connection railway Neubrandenburg (IAB GmbH). The purpose of the new establishment was to compensate for the slump in freight traffic of the IAB that has persisted since reunification with new services in passenger transport. The founder and first managing director was the industrialist Mathias Stinnes (great-grandson of Hugo Stinnes ). Its Neubrandenburg-based Stinnes Group (to which the East Mecklenburg aircraft construction - OMF - and the Neubrandenburger Verkehrs AG - NEVAG - belonged) was not part of the Mülheimer Stinnes AG . In addition, the Deutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (DEGV) participated financially and logistically in the company in order to expand its activities to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

In March 1997, OME was commissioned by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to operate the Neustrelitz – Feldberg branch line , and line operations began in May 1998. In the following years, additional routes were added to Rostock , Schwerin and Hagenow . At the beginning of 2001, Stinnes sold its majority stake to Connex Verkehr GmbH, a German subsidiary of the French Vivendi group (later Veolia ), which had emerged from DEGV .

In May 2005 the OME merged with the MecklenburgBahn (MEBA) to form Ostseeland-Verkehr GmbH. Connex (or Veolia Verkehr) held 70 percent of the new company and Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH held 30 percent.

The first line served by the OME was the Neustrelitz-Süd - Feldberg (Mecklenburg) branch line since May 24, 1998 . After it ceased operations in 2000, the OME increasingly concentrated on main lines.

Most recently, she regularly operated the following routes:

As part of the Connex Group, OME continued to provide partial services for InterConnex , the group’s long-distance passenger rail transport. In addition, the OME maintained freight traffic once a week on the Neubrandenburg – Friedland (Mecklenburg) railway line .

The OME used, among other things, modern diesel railcars from the Talent and Desiro series .
