history

The current district of Grambzow first appeared in a document in 1317, (Groß- and Klein-) Köthel in 1345 and Karstorf in 1427. The manor in Karstorf belonged to the von Osten family, who lived there until a fire in 1709. Later, Hans von Labes (1763–1831), landlord from Großwoltersdorf-Zernikow, acquired the fallow estate. Through adoption by his father-in-law, von Labes became Count of Schlitz and from 1806 he built the castle complex Burg Schlitz on the Buchenberg.

The sovereignty lay with the duchy, from 1918 Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . The community of Hohen Demzin had 172 inhabitants in 1910. With the transformation of the knightly office of Stavenhagen into the office of Stavenhagen on April 1, 1921, the municipality within it lost its independence and was added to the municipality of Burg Schlitz, whose district it remained until 1946. From 1925 Hohen Demzin was in the Malchin district, since 1933 in the Malchin district . In 1946 the place became its own municipality again, to which Burg Schlitz and Karstorf belonged as districts. On January 1, 1951, the previously independent municipality of Görzhausen was incorporated, on January 1, 1974 also Gambzhausen and Klein and Groß Köthel. In the course of the territorial reform of 1952 Hohen Demzin came from the Malchin district to the Teterow district in the Neubrandenburg district , to the Güstrow district in 1994 and finally to the Rostock district in 2011.
